Roger Solomon will be presenting two separate
days of training on Structural Dissociation and Grief and Loss before
the Master Class workshop. While these additional days are stand alone
training days, there is a discounted price if you are also attending
the Master Class: $165 for Structural Dissociation and $165 for Grief
and Loss. However, you will need to make separate registration for
each program you wish to attend. This advanced workshop will teach the Art of EMDR, with a special focus on EMDR with complex trauma, utilizing the framework of Structural Dissociation (van der Hart, Nijenhuis, Steele, 2006). The Adaptive Information Processing model which guides EMDR treatment, views present problems resulting from past experiences which are dysfunctionally stored. The heart of EMDR involves the transmutation of these dysfunctionally stored memories into an adaptive resolution that promotes psychological health. The Art of EMDR is attunement to the client, resonating, and providing optimal bilateral stimulation to maximize processing. The "Art" of EMDR is expressed in numerous ways: the dance of attunement during bilateral stimulation; knowing when to interweave vs. "stay out of the way"; reading the signs of reprocessing; how to work with phobia of affect/traumatic material; and knowing what to do when the reprocessing isn't moving along as expected. This workshop will teach preparation phase strategies to prepare for the complexities of treating trauma, and then will help participants expand and integrate their knowledge and skills in applying the Standard Protocol through advanced practicums. The workshop is limited to 18 clinicians who have completed an EMDRIA approved EMDR basic training. The philosophy of this workshop is the art is learned most effectively
through demonstration and practice rather than didactically. There
will be life demonstrations by Dr. Solomon to illustrate EMDR, with
discussion afterwards to highlight the teaching points. For personal
practice, nearly 60% of the workshop is spent in groups of 2 or 3
where you can use personal material as you rotate the roles of client,
therapist, and observer. These sessions will be facilitated by workshop
instructors who will provide live and immediate feedback to help your
fine tune your skills. What you can work on is completely up to you.
You can expect approximately 3 hours in the role of client over the
course of the 4 days. The workshop instructors are careful to create
a safe environment for you to go as deep as you need to go as client.
Your therapist is observed and assisted by workshop instructors to
provide you good treatment. The workshop is 4 days to allow the time
to accomplish significant work. While participants are encouraged
to work on their own issues personal boundaries will be respected
